Grants: InvenTeam grant High School Invention Grant
Process Applying for an InvenTeam grant is a two-step process. The initial application is available online each fall and due in the spring (for grants awarded the following academic year).
Student Involvement High school teachers often begin the application without student participants. Student input is encouraged for the initial application and required for the final application. Many teachers recruit students early to create a richer proposal for the initial application.
Invention Ideas InvenTeam projects span many fields from assistive devices to environmental technologies and consumer goods. Applicants are encouraged to consider needs of the world's poorest people (those earning $2/day) when brainstorming invention ideas. Some InvenTeams pursue inventions that also augment STEM curriculum such as Project Lead the Way. See former InvenTeams and their invention projects.
Selection A panel comprising inventors; educators; InvenTeam student alumni; and MIT faculty, staff, and alumni reviews the applications. Diversity is considered among school settings, demographics, and projects. Up to 35 finalists are selected from the initial applications to continue to the next step.
Excite Awards Selected finalists receive Excite Awards: These high school teachers are invited to EurekaFest, a multi-day celebration at MIT in June. Finalists meet current InvenTeams, see their inventions, and attend invention workshops, which count toward Professional Development Points (PDPs). Travel, food, and lodging are provided.

Tuesday, September 23, 2008 Educator Grant Program Applications Now Being Accepted The Air Force Association believes that one of the most significant means to affect student learning is to fund grants to meet the unmet and unfunded educational needs of students. Each school year, the Association awards grants to worthy projects that significantly influence student learning. The Association is currently accepting grant applications August 1 – November 14, 2008. The grant process is competitive in nature. A committee comprised of outside experts in the field of aerospace education will review all qualified grant applications and make recommendations on funding. Based upon the funding available, the Association will choose to invest in projects that best serve our nation's students and support the mission of the Air Force Association. The Educator Grant program promotes aerospace education activities in classrooms from kindergarten through twelfth grades. The program encourages development of innovative aerospace activities within the prescribed curriculum. Click here to receive the 2009 Application Guide and copy of the Official Rules. We recommend reading through the application guide before beginning your application. Click here to be taken to the online grant registration page. Grants: Operation Frog Pond
Tree Walkers International (TWI) is a conservation organization that focuses specifically on amphibians and their current declines—of the more than 5,000 described species, over one third are currently experiencing rapid declines or have recently become extinct. Understanding that amphibians are not only valuable in and of themselves, but are also indicator species of greater environmental health, TWI strives to inspire and empower ordinary people to become directly involved in implementing solutions to the global amphibian crisis.
One of the ways TWI is accomplishing this is through Operation Frog Pond (OFP), a project that helps create high quality habitat for amphibians by encouraging the establishment of amphibian friendly ornamental ponds and wetlands. A major aspect of OFP is working with teachers and students to construct frog ponds at their schools, which not only provide crucial habitat for local amphibian species, but also become outdoor classrooms where students can learn about the importance of nature, ecology, and conservation in up-close and tangible ways. The submission deadline is November 1, 2008.
