Join DeeDee Okamoto, Instructional Designer for the EarthScope Consortium, to explore how scientists use high-precision GPS data to study ground deformation along the U.S. West Coast - including the Cascadia Subduction Zone - and engage students in real-world seismic hazard analysis.

This session is built around the ShakeAlert® Earthquake Early Warning system and features three flexible, classroom-ready lessons developed by EarthScope (operator of the NSF GAGE and SAGE facilities). Each lesson includes:

  • ⚡ A 5–10-minute quick demo
  •  A 15–20-minute guided exploration
  •  A 30–50-minute deep-dive investigation
These data-rich, hands-on resources connect physics, chemistry, and biology through the lens of Earth science and natural hazards—perfect for middle and high school classrooms.
